Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why buy American instead of European?
American motorhomes are bigger, more comfortable and
sustainably built.
2) What do American campers cost?
Our units range anywhere from 15.000 to 60.000 euros.
3) How do these amounts come together?
Prices consist of: purchase, professional check-up and repair
where needed and a range of adjustments and alterations to make
the vehicle compliant with European laws and regulations. Other
significant costs come from shipping, exporting, importing, customs,
handling, RDW inspection inspection and if asked for LPG conversion.
4) Will I be able to drive a classic motorhome with a regular license?
A B-license is sufficient when not exceeding 3.500 kilogrammes for most
parts of the European continent, except for The Netherlands. Dutch law states
that vehicles of this proportion, weighing between 3.500 and 7.500 kilogrammes,
can only be driven by holders of a C-license. However, Dutch
law will very likely be altered to comply with the European standard.
Actions to do so were already taken during the summer of 2008. We will
make sure to inform you if anything should change.
5) American campers are usually powered by v8 engines. How about fuel-efficiency?
Our units were originally fitted with power generators for
self-sufficient camping. These power generators are seldomly used in Europe
and therefore if asked for can be professionally removed from
their compartments. The space that becomes available afterwards leaves
enough room for even more luggage or when wished for, to host an average to
fullsize LPG tank. LPG is today's most environmentally friendly and cost-effective fuel
and is available throughout the European continent.
6) Why does USCamper only offer units of 15 years old and over?
Over the years we have grown a love for certain makes and models. Mainly
because of their overall looks and beautiful designs and finishes. Of course
the fact that this makes for very low insurance and absolutely zero road
taxes doesn't hurt either!
7) Where can I get service for my classic American motorhome?
There are lots of garages and mechanics that are specialized in working
on American classics. A regular tune up for your beloved camping companion
will be no problem. Besides, the engines used in these vehicles are all
wellknown and taken from long-running American classic car ranges. Spare
parts are therefore easy to come by.
8) The electricity network in the United States is based on 110 volts.
Can I use my regular European appliances?
All units can be fitted with one one or more converters depending on the
amount of power thats is asked for when camping. A complete conversion from
110/120 Volt to 220/230 Volt also can be done. Whatever your choice is going
to be, using your everyday appliances will be no problem. Most of today's
camping equipment is based on 12 volts anyway. In the US that's no
different.
9) USCamper offers units in a range from 19 to 36 feet which comes down to
5,80 to 11 meters. Can I stay at any European campground?
An average car/caravan combination adds up to at least 10 meters and is
usually admitted to any campground in Europe. It goes without saying that
making reservations in advance is always advisable. Most campgrounds have
separate spaces for campers which also come with direct attachments for
electricity and water.
10) Can I replace the original built-in appliances with more modern ones?
Yes you can, but keep in mind that sizes and volumes may differ from those
of European models. It is also possible to have custom frames made for covering
up any differences in size, should they occur. In our case, the main goal is
to stick close to original shapes and sizes. Authenticity in overall appearance
can be very rewarding!
